Sergeant Burns is buried in plot 381 Grave 1, in Terrace Hill Cemetery, Truro, Nova Scotia BURSILL, JOHN ALAN - P/O 411119 Son of Samuel and Eleanor Jane Bursill, of Campbelltown, New South Wales, Australia. killed August 10, 1942 Age 25 #31 Operational Training Unit, Debert, Nova Scotia Hudson aircraft # BW401 was on a cross-country navigation exercise when the weather conditions deteriorated unexpectedly at base. The aircrew acknowledged an r/t message diverting the aircraft to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The Hudson struck high ground while in level flight and completely disintegrated. P/O P.A. Rogers (RCAF), Sgt’s A.W. Cooke (RCAF), J.K. Hobson (RCAF), and H.J. Vincent (RCAF) were also killed. Hyland (P) (RCAF), and P.W. Elliott were engaged in a navigation exercise and were killed when Hudson aircraft # FK408 crashed near Sydney, Nova Scotia. Buried in Plot 380. Grave 4.
